School Events

College homecoming has grown well past a single football game. For many campuses, it now spans a full weekend, drawing in current students, returning alumni, and their families all at once. Some schools build in campus tours, tailgates, reunion gatherings, and evening events on top of the game itself, which means there are a lot of moving pieces to plan around.

Whether your school is planning a carnival on the quad, a full tailgate outside the stadium, or both, a little advance planning goes a long way toward making the weekend feel organized and genuinely fun for everyone who shows up.

Decide What Kind of Event Fits Your Campus

Before booking anything, it helps to clarify which type of event you are building, since a campus carnival and a stadium tailgate call for different setups.

An On-Campus Carnival for Students

A carnival on the quad or in a courtyard works well for reaching current students. Fraternities, sororities, student organizations, and orientation groups can all get involved, and the open campus setting makes it easy for students to stop by between classes or after their last class of the day.

A Stadium Tailgate for Alumni and Families

A tailgate in the stadium parking lot is built around game day itself. This setup tends to draw returning alumni, parents, and younger siblings, and it works best when activities are grouped near the gates so people can enjoy them while they wait for kickoff.

Many schools plan for both, using the campus carnival to build excitement earlier in the week and the tailgate to bring everyone together on game day. Laying out a rough schedule early, even before specific attractions are booked, makes it easier to see how the different pieces of the weekend fit together.

Games and Attractions for a College Crowd

The right mix of attractions depends on the crowd you are expecting, but a few categories work well across most college homecoming events.

Carnival Rides for the Quad or Open Space

Carnival rides give a homecoming carnival its classic fairground feel and work well as the centerpiece of an on-campus event. Open areas like a quad, courtyard, or campus green give rides enough room to operate safely and give students space to gather while they wait their turn.

Carnival Games and Booths

Classic carnival games and booths give students and alumni something low-pressure to do together. They set up quickly and appeal to a wide age range, which is helpful when you are planning for both current students and visiting families.

Inflatables and Interactive Attractions

Inflatables add energy to a campus carnival and give younger siblings and visiting kids something to enjoy while parents catch up with family and friends. An obstacle course or interactive inflatable also gives the event a visual centerpiece that photographs well for social media.

Yard Games for Open Tailgate Lots

Open tailgate lots are a natural fit for yard games. They are simple to set up between rows of cars and tents, and they give people something to do in the stretch of time before the gates open.

Feeding the Crowd

Food looks different depending on whether you are planning a campus carnival or a stadium tailgate.

Tailgate Food and Drink

Food is often the main draw of a tailgate. Guests are standing, moving between tents, and heading into the stadium before long, so grilled favorites and other classic game day fare tend to work best. Our catering team can build a menu around that kind of casual, game day spread, so alumni and families get the full tailgate experience without anyone having to haul out their own grill.

Concessions for a Casual Campus Carnival

Classic concessions like popcorn and cotton candy fit naturally into a campus carnival setting. They are easy to serve to a moving crowd and give the event a true fair day feel.

Catering for Alumni Tents and VIP Areas

For alumni tents or reserved areas, catering offers a more complete meal option. It is a good fit for donor events, reunion gatherings, or any part of the weekend where guests are expected to sit and stay a while.

Setting Up the Space

Comfort and logistics go a long way toward making a homecoming event run smoothly, especially outdoors.

Tents, Tables, and Chairs

Tents, tables, and chairs provide guests with shade and seating, which is especially helpful during an afternoon game or a warm early-fall weekend. They also give alumni a spot to gather and catch up before heading to their seats.

Lighting and Power for Evening Kickoffs

For night games or evening tailgates, lighting and power keep the event running once the sun goes down. It helps to plan this out early, since power needs can shift depending on how many attractions and food stations are part of the setup.

Entertainment and Downtime Activities

A few added touches can round out the day and give guests something to do between the main attractions.

Live Entertainers

Entertainers can add an extra layer of energy to a tailgate or campus carnival, giving guests something interactive to enjoy beyond the games and food.

Photo Backdrops and Spirit Decor

A themed backdrop or a bit of school-color decor gives alumni and students an easy spot for selfies and adds some spirit to the space without requiring extra staffing or setup time.

Practical Planning Considerations

A few logistical details can make the difference between a smooth event and a stressful one.

Coordinating With Campus Departments and Athletics

Campus events typically involve student affairs, athletics, and facilities staff, so it helps to loop them in early. Coordinating parking, setup times, and access points ahead of the weekend keeps everyone on the same page once homecoming arrives.

Weather Backup Plans

Fall weather in Georgia can change quickly, so it helps to have a backup plan for tents, power, and any attractions that require dry conditions.

Booking Early During Homecoming Season

Homecoming weekends are compressed into a short window each fall, and many schools across the state are planning similar events at the same time. Booking early gives you a better shot at the attractions and dates you want.

Choosing the Right Location on Campus

The quad, the courtyard, and the stadium parking lot each have distinct space and access needs. A campus carnival needs enough open ground for foot traffic between classes, while a tailgate needs room for cars, tents, and attractions without blocking the flow into the stadium. Walking the space ahead of time with one of our team members helps confirm what will fit and where.

Working With a Full-Service Event Partner

Planning a homecoming carnival or tailgate requires extensive coordination, from selecting attractions to setting up tents and lighting, all on a tight timeline. Burgess Events works with colleges across Georgia to plan these details together, starting with a consultation and building a plan around your campus, your schedule, and your goals for the weekend. Our equipment is cleaned and maintained to a high standard, and our team handles setup and breakdown, so your staff and student volunteers can stay focused on the event itself and not have to worry about the logistics behind it.

Start Planning Your Homecoming Weekend

A college homecoming weekend gives students, alumni, and families a shared reason to come back to campus, and the right combination of games, food, and entertainment can turn game day into something people look forward to year after year. Whether you are planning a carnival on the quad, a full tailgate outside the stadium, or a weekend that includes both, reaching out early leaves more room to build the event you actually want.

Homecoming Week Is Bigger Than One Night

Homecoming has always centered around the football game, and that game earns every bit of energy a school can bring to it. But homecoming has grown into something bigger than a single Friday night. Pep rallies, spirit days, and after-school gatherings now stretch across the entire week, giving students multiple chances to take part in the celebration.

At Burgess Events, we have supported school events across Georgia for over 30 years, and homecoming is one of the busiest and most rewarding seasons we work with. A well-planned homecoming week keeps the spotlight on the football game while also creating space for the rest of the student body to get involved, whether that means a pep rally, a spirit day activity, or something special waiting outside the stadium gates on game night.

Building School Spirit Throughout Homecoming Week

Spreading homecoming activities across the full week gives more students a reason to participate. Not every student plays football, marches in the band, serves on the homecoming committee, or is included in homecoming court, but nearly every student can get excited about a carnival game during a pep rally or an inflatable obstacle course in the courtyard after school.

First-year students in particular benefit from a fuller homecoming week. Freshmen are often still finding their place in the school community, and additional activities give them low-pressure ways to join in the spirit of the week alongside upper-level students. The result is a homecoming celebration that feels like it belongs to the whole school, not just the students most directly connected to the game itself.

Staff and teachers benefit from this as well. A week built around several smaller activities rather than a single large event gives teachers natural opportunities to build excitement in the classroom, from a spirit day contest on Monday to a pep rally on Thursday. That steady build of energy tends to carry right into game night itself.

Building Excitement for Game Night

Game night is still the centerpiece of homecoming week, and it calls for attractions that match the occasion. Tailgate-style activities outside the stadium and entertainment near the stands can turn game night into an event that starts well before kickoff and keeps the energy high through the final whistle.

Tailgate Games and Booths

Carnival games and booths set up as part of the tailgate outside the field gates give students and families something to do while they wait for the gates to open. Backdrop games and carnival booths work well in this tailgate setting, giving fans an easy, low-commitment activity that builds anticipation before the team takes the field.

Concessions at the Stadium

Classic fair food fits naturally into a tailgate atmosphere. Popcorn, cotton candy, and other concession favorites give the pregame setup a true event feel and give students and families another reason to arrive early rather than showing up right at kickoff.

Halftime and Pregame Entertainment

An inflatable feature positioned near the stands or concourse area keeps the energy high during halftime and other breaks in the action. This attraction gives younger siblings and non-sports fans something to enjoy throughout the night, which helps keep the crowd engaged from the opening kickoff through the final minutes of the game.

Attractions That Fit the Rest of Homecoming Week

Game night is not the only opportunity to bring energy to homecoming. The days leading up to it offer just as much potential for school-wide engagement.

Carnival Games and Booths

Carnival games and booths are easy to set up for a pep rally or a short after-school activity period. They require minimal setup time compared to larger attractions, making them a practical choice for schools working within tight windows during the school day.

Inflatables and Obstacle Courses

Inflatables and obstacle courses bring high energy to spirit day activities or an after-school block party. These attractions give students an active outlet during a week that is often full of anticipation and excitement, and they tend to draw a crowd wherever they are set up on campus.

Bringing the Homecoming Dance to Life

The homecoming dance closes out the week and gives the whole school one more chance to celebrate together. Turning a gymnasium or cafeteria into a dance floor takes more than moving out the lunch tables, and a few thoughtful additions can transform the space into something students will remember.

Lighting and Decor

Lighting and decor set the tone the moment students walk through the door. Uplighting, string lighting, and themed decor can turn a familiar school space into something that feels entirely different for the night, giving the dance its own identity separate from the rest of the school year.

Entertainment and Atmosphere

Entertainers can add an extra layer of energy to the dance floor, giving students an interactive experience to enjoy beyond the music and dancing. The right entertainment choice depends on the dance’s theme and the age group attending, and we help schools select options that fit both.

Concessions and Refreshments

A concessions table gives students a place to take a break between songs and keeps the energy in the room steady throughout the night. Simple, easy-to-serve options work best in a dance setting, where students are moving in and out of the space rather than sitting down for a meal.

Planning Homecoming Activities That Fit the School Schedule

Homecoming week involves a lot of moving parts, and thinking through the logistics early helps everything come together smoothly.

Working Around the School Day

Pep rallies, spirit days, and the football game itself all come with their own scheduling demands. Coordinating setup and teardown around these events takes careful planning, and our team works with school staff to fit attractions into the school day without disrupting classes.

Choosing the Right Setting

Different homecoming activities call for different settings. A gymnasium works well for an indoor pep rally, a courtyard suits a spirit day activity, and the stadium parking lot is a natural fit for tailgate-style games and concessions on game night. Matching the attraction to the right setting helps the event run smoothly and keeps students moving comfortably through the space.

We help schools walk through each of these spaces ahead of time to confirm what will fit and where. A gymnasium floor has different setup requirements than an outdoor courtyard, and a stadium parking lot needs enough room for both attractions and normal vehicle traffic. Thinking through these details before homecoming week begins helps avoid last-minute changes once setup is underway.

Budget and Planning Timeline

Homecoming activities are typically held over one week each fall, which means schools across Georgia often book similar attractions at the same time. Planning early gives schools access to a wider selection of games, inflatables, and entertainment options, and gives us more flexibility to build a package that fits the school’s budget and goals for the week.

Start Planning Your Homecoming Celebration

Homecoming week gives schools a chance to celebrate school spirit at every level, from the pep rally to the final play of the game and the dance at the end of the night. Burgess Events has helped schools across Georgia build homecoming weeks that keep the spotlight on the football game while creating opportunities for the rest of the student body to join in the celebration.

Because homecoming events are compressed into a short window each fall, booking early gives your school the best chance at securing the attractions you want. If you are ready to start planning your homecoming week, give us a call at (770) 788-9109 or visit our website to request a quick quote.

Fall Festivals Give Schools a Fun Way to Raise Funds

Fall festivals are one of the most popular events on a school calendar, and for good reason. They bring students, parents, teachers, and neighbors together at a time of year when the weather in Georgia is comfortable, and the energy around campus is high. But beyond the fun, a well-organized fall festival can also be one of the most effective fundraising events a school puts on all year.

At Burgess Events, we have helped schools across Georgia plan fall festivals for over 30 years. We have seen firsthand how the right combination of attractions, food, and activities can turn a community gathering into a reliable source of funding for school programs, clubs, and campus improvements.

The key is to treat the festival as both a celebration and a fundraiser from the very beginning. When the planning reflects both goals, the result is an event that people enjoy and one that generates real support for the school.

Why Fall Festivals Make Strong Fundraisers

Many school fundraisers ask families to buy something or donate directly. Fall festivals take a different approach. They offer an experience in exchange for participation, which tends to draw larger crowds and encourage families to stay longer.

When guests are having a good time, they naturally spend more. A family that planned to stay for an hour often stays for three when there are rides to enjoy, games to play, and food to snack on between activities. That extended time on the grounds translates directly into higher revenue across every station.

Fall festivals also reach beyond the immediate school community. Neighbors, extended family, and local residents often attend, expanding the audience well beyond the usual parent and student base. For schools in Georgia, where community ties tend to be strong, this wider turnout can make a noticeable difference in total funds raised.

Attractions That Support Fundraiser Goals

Not every attraction generates revenue the same way. Some draw people in, some keep them moving, and some create direct earning opportunities. The best fall festival lineups include a mix of all three.

Carnival Rides

Carnival rides are the biggest visual draw at any fall festival. A Ferris wheel, a large slide attraction, or a cluster of spinning rides signals to families driving past that something exciting is happening. That visibility helps boost attendance, which is the foundation of any fundraiser. Rides can be ticketed individually or bundled into wristband packages, giving families flexibility while keeping the revenue steady.

Carnival Games and Booths

Carnival games are one of the most consistent revenue generators at school festivals. Backdrop games, carnival booths, and game trailers are easy to set up throughout the event space and appeal to all age groups. Each game can be priced per play, and adding prizes gives students an extra reason to keep playing.

Game trailers are especially useful for schools working with limited space. They arrive fully stocked and ready to operate, which reduces the setup time volunteers need to invest.

Inflatables and Obstacle Courses

Bounce houses, dry slides, and obstacle courses keep younger students active and entertained for long stretches. For fundraiser purposes, these attractions work well on a wristband or unlimited-play model, since kids will return to them again and again. Parents appreciate having a safe, contained area where younger children can play, giving adults more time to explore other parts of the festival.

Arcade Games and Simulators

Virtual reality simulators, racing games, retro arcade cabinets, and sports arcade stations appeal to older students and teens. These can be set up indoors in a gym or a multipurpose room, creating a separate zone distinct from the outdoor carnival. For fundraiser planning, indoor attractions also serve as a backup if the weather becomes a concern. Each game or simulator session can be individually ticketed.

Concessions

Concession sales are often one of the highest-margin revenue streams at a school festival. Popcorn, cotton candy, snow cones, funnel cakes, and other classic carnival food are affordable to produce and easy to sell in volume. Schools can set up multiple concession stations throughout the event to reduce long lines and increase total sales.

Some schools also partner with local food vendors or parent volunteers to provide additional food options, which can add variety without increasing costs to the school.

Planning a Festival That’s a Successful Fundraiser

A fall festival fundraiser takes more thought than a standard school event. The goal is to create an experience people enjoy while building in enough earning opportunities to make the event successful in its earning goals.

Ticketing and Pricing

The ticketing structure can shape the entire financial outcome. Some schools sell individual ride and game tickets, which gives families control over spending. Others offer wristband packages for unlimited access to rides and inflatables, which simplifies the experience and encourages families to commit early. A combination of both often produces the best results, with wristbands covering rides and individual tickets used for games and concessions.

Pre-selling tickets online or through the school before the event also helps with planning. It gives organizers a sense of expected attendance and puts money in the budget before the gates open.

Sponsorships

Local businesses are often willing to sponsor school events, especially when the festival draws a large, family-oriented crowd. Sponsorship revenue can offset the cost of rides and attractions, so more of the ticket and concession revenue goes directly to the school. Sponsors can be recognized on banners, flyers, and social media, which gives them visibility in return.

Volunteer Coordination

School festivals rely heavily on volunteers, and how they are organized affects both the guest experience and the bottom line. Assigning volunteers to specific stations, keeping shifts reasonable, and making sure concession and ticketing areas are always staffed keep the event running smoothly. When a professional event company handles ride operations and equipment, it frees up volunteers to focus on the areas where parent involvement makes the biggest difference.

Layout and Flow

A thoughtful layout encourages guests to move through the entire event space. Placing concessions between activity zones, positioning popular rides toward the back of the grounds, and creating clear paths between attractions all help keep people circulating. The longer guests stay and the more they see, the more opportunities there are to generate revenue.

Start Planning Your School Fall Festival

Fall festivals take time to plan well, and schools that begin the process early have more options for rides, games, and attractions. For Georgia schools, September and October are the prime months for outdoor festivals, which means the planning window is open right now.

Burgess Events has helped schools of all sizes in Georgia and throughout the southeast build fall festivals that bring the community together and raise funds that support school programs directly. We handle the attractions, logistics, delivery, setup, and teardown so school staff and volunteers can focus on the parts of the event that need a personal touch.

Start the School Year With a Great Event

The first few weeks of school set the tone for the entire year. Students are adjusting to new classrooms, parents are meeting new teachers, and staff members are settling into fresh routines. A well-planned back-to-school carnival gives everyone a reason to come together before the busy semester takes over.

For Georgia schools, the timing works well. August and early September still bring warm weather and long evenings, which makes outdoor events easy to pull off. And when the setup includes carnival rides, games, inflatables, and concessions, it creates a welcome that students and families actually look forward to.

Burgess Events has worked with schools across Georgia for over 30 years, helping administrators and PTA organizers turn open fields and parking lots into entertaining carnival experiences. Whether a school is hosting its first event or looking to improve on last year, the planning process is straightforward once the details are in place.

How Schools Benefit From a Back-to-School Carnival

School carnivals do more than provide a fun afternoon. They serve as an early opportunity for families to connect with teachers, other parents, and the broader school community. When parents feel welcomed, and students feel excited, it builds positive energy that carries into the school year.

A carnival also gives schools a chance to highlight programs, introduce new staff, and encourage involvement in PTAs, booster clubs, and volunteer groups. Setting up an information table next to a Ferris wheel or a row of carnival booths means people are relaxed, approachable, and more likely to stop and listen.

From a practical standpoint, these events can also serve as fundraisers. Ticket sales, concession revenue, and sponsorship opportunities can support school programs throughout the year.

Choosing the Right Attractions for Your School

One of the biggest decisions school organizers face is figuring out which attractions fit their space, their crowd, and their budget. A high school homecoming crowd looks very different from an elementary school family night, and the right combination of activities makes all the difference.

Carnival Rides

Carnival rides are the centerpiece of most school carnivals. They create visual excitement, draw families onto the grounds, and give students something to talk about for weeks. Options range from classic favorites to larger attractions that anchor the event. Schools with enough outdoor space can build an impressive midway that feels like a true carnival experience.

Inflatables and Obstacle Courses

For younger students, interactive inflatables are often the biggest hit. Bounce houses, dry slides, and obstacle courses give kids a safe, high-energy outlet. Schools with Pre-K through elementary-age students do especially well with toddler zones and age-appropriate bouncers that let younger children play without competing with older kids for space.

Obstacle courses are also popular with middle school students, who enjoy the competitive element without needing a full carnival ride.

Carnival Games and Booths

Carnival games are easy to set up across a school campus and can fill spaces where larger rides may not fit. Backdrop games, carnival booths, and game trailers give students and families a reason to move through the entire event space. Adding prizes keeps the energy high, especially for younger students who love walking away with something in hand.

Arcade Games and Simulators

For schools looking to offer something beyond traditional carnival attractions, arcade games and simulators create a completely different draw. Virtual reality experiences, racing simulators, retro arcade cabinets, and sports arcade games appeal to older students and teens who may not be as interested in rides or inflatables. These can be set up indoors in a gym or cafeteria, which also provides a break from the heat.

Concessions

No school carnival feels complete without concessions. Popcorn, cotton candy, snow cones, and other classic carnival food keep families on the grounds longer and give the event an authentic feel. Concession stations can also double as fundraisers when managed with a ticketing system.

Logistics That Should Be Considered

Getting the fun part right is important, but the behind-the-scenes planning is what separates a smooth event from a stressful one. Here are a few things we recommend thinking about well before event day.

Space and Layout

School campuses vary widely. Some have large athletic fields that can accommodate a full carnival layout with rides, games, and food stations spread across zones. Others work with parking lots or smaller common areas. We help schools evaluate their available space so the layout supports good traffic flow and keeps guests comfortable.

Timing and Setup

Most school events happen in the late afternoon or early evening, which means setup needs to happen during or just after the school day. Planning for delivery access, staging areas, and setup timelines keeps the process smooth and avoids disrupting classes. Our team handles delivery, setup, and teardown, so school staff and volunteers can focus on welcoming guests.

Planning for a Wide Age Range

A school that serves Pre-K through fifth grade has very different needs than a middle school or high school. Thinking through the age range of expected attendees helps narrow down which attractions to include. Toddler zones, for example, give younger siblings a safe place to play while older students head for rides and games.

Safety and Supervision

Safety is always a top priority for school events. Professional event companies carry insurance, maintain equipment to industry standards, and staff trained operators for rides and attractions. Schools should confirm these details early in the planning process. We bring our own staff to operate rides and attractions, which frees up school volunteers for other responsibilities.

Start Planning Your Back-to-School Carnival

Planning a back-to-school carnival can seem like a big undertaking, especially for school administrators and PTA volunteers who are already juggling a full schedule. The good news is that working with an experienced event rental company like Burgess Events simplifies the process significantly.

We start with a simple consultation to understand the school’s goals, space, budget, and student demographics. From there, we recommend a package of attractions and handle the logistics from delivery through teardown. Schools get a turn-key event without the stress of managing dozens of moving parts on their own.

Georgia schools that plan over the summer have the widest selection of rides, games, and attractions to choose from. As August approaches, availability tightens, so reaching out sooner gives organizers more flexibility.

Fall carnivals are a big event for schools in Atlanta, and it’s easy to see why. These gatherings bring students, teachers, and families together with games, food, and fun activities that fill the season with laughter. While booths and small games are part of the tradition, we’ve seen how much more exciting and memorable a carnival becomes when you add rides into the mix. There’s something about seeing a ride set up on school grounds that makes the entire experience feel bigger and more memorable for kids and parents alike.

At Burgess Events, we’ve helped schools across Atlanta turn their fall events into something more engaging. We offer attractions that are safe, fun, and simple to set up without adding stress to the planning. Whether it’s for a school fundraiser or just a seasonal celebration, we know how amusement ride rentals can shift the tone from casual gathering to full-out festival.

Why Rides Make School Carnivals Stand Out

It doesn’t take a lot to turn a quiet school yard into a lively space. Just one well-placed ride can do the trick. When guests walk in and see a ride in motion, the excitement picks up right away. It sends a message that this will be more than a typical event.

• A ride gives students something active to look forward to instead of just walking booth to booth
• Families tend to stay longer when there’s a ride involved, which helps boost energy
• A ride instantly becomes a shared talking point, helping kids encourage their friends to join in

You don’t need to fill the entire event with rides. Often, one or two good ones are enough to give the day a festival feel. They help center the space and act as natural gathering points that create activity without needing constant announcements or instructions.

Choosing the Right Rides for Different Age Groups

Most school carnivals include a wide age range. A kindergarten student won’t want the same thing as a sixth grader. Thinking through the crowd mix is a good idea so that the rides feel right for everyone.

• Small spinning rides or mini choo-choo trains are great for younger kids who want fun without the fear
• Intermediate rides with simple controls or soft bouncing fit students in early elementary grades
• Older students may like faster rides or ones they can control a little, depending on the setup

Having a mix, not too much, just enough, gives all students something to get excited about. When kids see rides meant for them, they feel more drawn in. That kind of energy can help the entire event feel more balanced and well planned.

Planning a Smooth Ride Setup at Atlanta Schools

Fall weather in Atlanta tends to shift throughout the day. Mornings are cooler, but by mid-afternoon, temperatures can rise. That means thinking ahead is a good idea when setting up rides in outdoor areas during this season.

• Use flat areas with open paths for ride setup, especially where lines may form
• Try to keep rides closer to the main flow of the event without blocking walkways
• Account for power sources and protection in case the wind picks up or the weather changes

Having staff or volunteers nearby helps with safety and timing. When rides are easy to find and supported by adults, parents feel more confident letting their kids take part. A good ride placement can make a big difference in keeping things steady from start to finish.

How Rides Keep Guests Engaged Throughout the Event

There’s something about a working ride that pulls people’s focus. Even guests who don’t hop on right away tend to stop and watch. That action creates a sense of movement in the event space, even during slow moments.

• Families usually stick around longer when there’s a ride to enjoy
• Rides often bring guests into the center of the carnival, which helps spread out the crowd
• Quiet or shy kids might feel more comfortable easing into the ride line before going into louder games

Instead of needing a lot of setup or instructions, rides are self-explanatory. Once it starts spinning or bouncing, kids understand what to do. This helps keep the event smooth and engaging without needing constant hands-on attention.

Keep the Fun Active and Simple

Carnivals often include a wide variety of activities. While that is nice, too many small booths can feel scattered or stressful for younger families just figuring out where to start. A single ride can give shape to the day and make the event feel more complete.

• One well-placed ride gives guests an obvious first stop and a good memory to hold onto
• Parents appreciate activities that don’t require lines of instructions or too many decisions
• We rent amusement ride rentals that fit well in different school layouts and work with setups around Atlanta

Keeping the experience simple doesn’t mean it’s boring. Sometimes the best part is watching the faces of kids spinning in a circle or bouncing up and down while their friends cheer them on. It creates a scene of fun that keeps people talking well beyond the day itself.

Bringing More Smiles to Atlanta School Events

Adding a ride to your school’s fall carnival brings excitement without overcomplicating the plan. It gives kids something big to look forward to and makes the day feel more special. Rides are loud, bright, and filled with motion, which helps break up the slower parts of the event and pull in more families.

For schools in Atlanta, this kind of energy is what brings people back year after year. When kids see something fun waiting for them, they want to come early, stay longer, and make the most of the day. Creating that simple spark can help build stronger school traditions, and we’re always glad to help make that happen at Burgess Events.

Fall always feels like the perfect season for bringing people together. Planning school harvest events gives us a fun reason to gather students, parents, and school staff in one place. With cooler weather and colorful leaves, October is a great time to host a harvest festival here in Atlanta. A well-planned festival doesn’t need to be fancy to be great. It just takes clear ideas, teamwork, and a bit of efficient organizing.

At Burgess Events, we’ve helped many schools plan safe and fun fall festivals across the Atlanta metro area. From creating layouts to handling small details, our job is to make things easy from start to finish. We’re based right here in Atlanta, so we know how to work with local schools and bring their fall festival ideas to life. For those who want something classic, we rent pinball machines and a variety of event games for school gatherings.

Choosing Your Harvest Festival Theme

The best festivals start with a clear, simple theme. Whether it’s pumpkins, apples, scarecrows, or even a mix of all three, picking a theme early helps guide everything else. The goal is to make the theme easy for everyone, kids, teachers, and volunteers, to understand and enjoy.

We like to keep it school-friendly so everyone, from young kids to older students, can join in the fun. Themes like “pumpkin patch” or “autumn carnival” give you plenty to work with for decorations. Think hay bales, orange streamers, and banners featuring your theme. Staff can wear festive hats or matching shirts to bring the theme to life, and signs around the school can match the overall look. When decorations, costumes, and signage all go together, the festival feels special without feeling overwhelming.

Setting Up Fall Festival Games and Activities

Games are at the heart of planning school harvest events. Classic games and activities are a hit for a reason. They’re quick to set up, easy for kids to understand, and always popular. Think about offering options like:

– Ring toss
– Sack races
– Balloon darts
– Mini bowling lanes

But we always include more than just active games. It makes sense to mix things up with quiet spots and creative spaces. Craft tables can let kids make leaf art or decorate small pumpkins. A cozy area for storytelling gives families a way to slow down and enjoy a peaceful moment together. Since students of all ages will be attending, dividing some games by grade or age ensures everyone finds something just right. The trick is to offer enough choices to keep everyone busy, but not so many that the space feels crowded.

To make events even more memorable, interactive inflatables or carnival booths can be used. Burgess Events offers options like kid-friendly obstacle courses and game trailers, which add variety without making setup complex.

Organizing Food, Prizes, and Volunteer Help

Once the games are chosen, it’s time to think about the extras that bring the festival together. Food is always a big hit, and at October school festivals, it’s best to keep it festive and simple. Good ideas for snacks include apple slices, popcorn, warm cider, and baked treats. Choose foods that are easy to hand out and won’t create a mess.

Prizes keep excitement high, so set up a reward table with kid-friendly options. Good choices are small stuffed animals, colorful stickers, or simple toys. These make great rewards and help move lines quickly so that everyone gets a turn. Volunteers are key to making this all happen smoothly.

Start early and ask for help from parents, older students, and teachers. The earlier they know the plan, the more prepared they’ll be on festival day. With clear instructions, most people are happy to get involved and lend a hand wherever it’s needed.

The game and food booths should be organized side by side. This way, families don’t have to walk far between activities and snacks, which keeps the flow moving and makes supervision easier for adults.

Keeping Your School Fall Festival Safe and Smooth

Safety should always be prioritized at any school event. We’ve found that drawing a map of the booth and activity areas ahead of time helps avoid crowding and confusion. With a well-thought-out layout, everyone, especially younger children, can move through the event at their own pace without feeling rushed or lost.

Clear signs are very helpful. Mark exits, rest areas, and handwashing spots in visible locations. Since the weather in Atlanta can change quickly in October, it’s smart to prepare with tents or to have access to an indoor space just in case. It can go from warm and sunny to cool and rainy in just a few hours. Having backup plans means your festival goes on, no matter what.

A walkie-talkie system from Burgess Events can help volunteers and staff stay in touch across the school grounds, to make quick updates or call for backup if needed.

Why Planning Ahead Makes All the Difference

When it comes to planning school harvest events, starting early takes away a lot of pressure. There’s a lot to think about: games, food, activities, volunteers, and decorations can add up quickly. Keeping a timeline helps break big tasks into smaller steps so that nothing feels out of control.

Here’s how planning ahead can improve your event:

– Checklists keep track of booth details, supply drop-offs, and volunteers.
– Spreading out tasks over a few weeks makes each part feel easier to manage.
– Early planning allows time for new ideas to come together naturally.
– Students, parents, and staff can ask questions and get answers long before the big day.

In Atlanta schools, those that start planning in late summer have the smoothest, happiest fall festivals. Early planning means less last-minute stress, so the day feels calm and organized. When volunteers feel good about their roles and the setup is clear, everyone can focus on having fun.

A good way to ensure nothing gets missed is to use a printed checklist for jobs, supplies, and helpers. When people see you’re organized, they’re more comfortable jumping in to help or volunteer with last-minute items. The calm feeling spreads from the organizers to the rest of the parents, teachers, and kids.
